Prior to becoming the Managing Director of SEN Action and its Specialist Advocate, Sean worked as a Solicitor-Advocate for a leading national education legal practice representing local authorities. He has extensive experience and expertise in handling appeals to Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunals (SEN Tribunal/ SENDIST). This includes full case management and representation at Tribunal Hearings on complex cases.

Sean also has considerable experience in representing clients at the Upper Tribunal and has been involved in the following reported decisions:

●  Buckinghamshire County Council v HW [2013] UKUT 470 (AAC)</li>

●  MA v Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (SEN) [2015] UKUT 0186 (AAC)

In his previous role, Sean obtained a very useful insight into how local authorities operate, including how they make their decisions, what their thought processes are and their approach to gathering evidence. Having supported local authorities for a number of years, Sean has an integral understanding of how they prepare for SEN Appeals and what issues they can find particularly difficult to deal with. Sean has also worked directly within the SEN Teams of two London local authorities, which has provided a unique and invaluable insight into local authority practices.

Sean has also advised a number of parents and young people on a pro-bono basis, which has included support on matters such as SEN Tribunals, disability discrimination and equality issues at University.
Sean therefore, is able to provide a specialist and holistic service to assist you in your case. He is more than happy to discuss his experience with you and invites you to give the office a call or to send us an e-mail.
Before becoming a lawyer, Sean has worked in a number of jobs, which has included the following; A Theatre Host in The Grand Opera House in Belfast, a call centre operator and a sales assistant in a shoe shop. Also, following his qualification as a New York Attorney, Sean became a tutor on the New York Bar Programme in Dublin.
Sean loves all things football and until recently often played Saturday and Sunday league. He now enjoys spending more time with his Wife, Danielle and two young daughters, Abigail and Evelyn.

Sean also enjoys spending time with his Uncle Barry, who is also SEN Action’s Events Officer (see Barry's profile above). They are both known to sneak off to the local for a game of pool or two and to watch the football.
Sean has previously volunteered for a number of charities. He has visited both Kenya and Zambia with Habitat for Humanity. He also volunteered for NICE, a cross community charity in Northern Ireland and whilst at school volunteered for a charity that provided activities for children with special educational needs during the school holidays.

Dr. Danielle Bowers

Director of Health and Education
QUALIFICATIONS
• Medical Degree MB BCh BAO
• PGCE in Biology and Health Education
• Masters’ module in Safeguarding and SEN

With a background as a medical doctor, over 10 years teaching experience and additional training in safeguarding, Danielle plays an integral role in running SEN Action, alongside Sean.
Danielle trained and qualified as a doctor at Queen’s University Belfast, during which time she worked as a support worker for children and adults with Special Educational Needs, to support her during her studies. Upon qualifying, Danielle worked as a doctor at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, experiencing the complexities and challenges of working in a busy A&E department, a Surgical ward and Stroke Unit. With a passion for teaching, Danielle often taught medical students on the ward and decided to take her passion further by doing a PGCE at King’s College London. As expected, Danielle loved teaching and was fortunate to work at four very different schools that have provided a range of opportunities and challenges that allowed her to grow and develop professionally over a period of 10 years. This included taking on roles such as, Head of Department and the departmental lead for SEN. Danielle’s passion for advocating for children with SEN led to her stepping back from her teaching career and setting up SEN Action with Sean. Danielle is SEN Action’s Director of Health & Education and a passion of hers is developing SEN Action’s training programmes and courses. This includes SEN Action’s Parent SEN Advocacy Training Programme, which as a company we are very proud of. (Link to courses)
Danielle loves yoga, drinking coffee and listening to podcasts. Her idea of heaven is going for a walk, listening to a podcast with a latte in hand. Danielle’s biggest passion are her two young daughters, Abigail and Evelyn. She enjoys spending time with them as much as possible, whether this is baking, watching a movie or going shopping in town. She also has a strong passion for cooking, travelling and experiencing different cultures.
Danielle has previously volunteered for the charity Praxis, a charity that helps adults with mental health problems reintegrate into society. She has also volunteered at foodbanks, organising and distributing food and very recently has volunteered as an Independent Visitor for Barnardo’s, a role that involves being a supportive adult to children in the care system.

Barry Dale

Events Officer
Barry is SEN Action’s Events Officer. He is highly dedicated, meticulous in his planning and has effective organisational skills. He is responsible for ensuring that the events calendar is up-to date and any materials/ documentation for SEN Action’s events are organised.

Barry also assists in designing the material for the events and provides input on what the events should cover and what should happen at them. He often accompanies Sean, SEN Action’s Specialist Advocate, to events and will help with setting up and distributing materials.
Barry has a large variety of interests and keeps himself very busy. He is a big Tottenham Hotspur fan and enjoys popping to the local to watch a match. He also enjoys playing a game of pool or two and he is an accomplished player. He often teaches Sean, SEN Action’s Specialist Advocate, a lesson in the art of pool. This is despite Sean being Barry’s nephew and therefore, really should let Sean win the odd game. Or so Sean thinks.

Barry also likes to relax and enjoys watching the soaps and the old time great movies, particularly those featuring John Wayne. He will often entertain others with his impression of the Duke and other favourites.

On occasion, Barry will also hit the dance floor and will bust some moves. He is famous for turning an empty dance floor into a hive of activity and freely admits that he loves the attention.

Above all else however, Barry loves being an Uncle and a Great Uncle. He is superb at it and is much loved by all.
